Plinky: At what age do you think it’s appropriate for children to get cell phones?
I think 12 would be reasonable. These days, cell phones are more of a necessity than a luxury. I think 12 is the age when a lot of kids start wandering off from their parents’ sight, and if I was a parent, I’d want to have a way to instantly talk to my son or daughter. However, I will not give them sophisticated and expensive phones that can be lost or stolen easily. “Basic” phones would be enough — phones that can make calls and text messages and has a few fancy stuff that they will like, but aren’t too outdated (I refuse to be a dorky mom).
