MANILA, Philippines — The ongoing television soap “Budoy” touted itself as the “first advocacy serye’’. After all, it had this noble intention of spreading awareness on children with special needs (CSN) and teaching the public that CSNs have the right to be properly educated and accepted by society.
While some say this show is making a difference in the industry, others brand it as “misleading” and oftentimes “confusing,” especially to people in the field of special education. It had good intentions in the beginning, they say, but not when the life of the lead character Budoy dramatically changed after an accident, making him an instant savant with extraordinary abilities.
This is where the problem starts.
Being a Psychology student, I admired ABS-CBN for creating a drama soap about children with special needs, and how they go through life. I had high expectations for Budoy. It started well, but looking at how they have been twisting facts just to fuel the drama and create perfect soap scenes, I lost my admiration for whoever is behind this soap. I guess it’s still about show business and network ratings, after all.
They think they know, but the don’t know anything at all. Sayang.
