How many kilobytes can your heart hold?

My name is Hannah and I was born twenty-two years ago. I live in a country with more than 7,000 islands. Unfortunately, we do not have snow. I am trying to finish a degree in Clinical Psychology while working part-time in a BPO somewhere in Makati. Children are the apple of my eyes. If you see me listening to music, I'm probably listening to Jason Mraz. Philippine Literature and Historical fiction interests me. Cute things bring out my girly self. ISFP.

My brother gave me an envelope with a note outside that says: Happy birthday sister, sorry I’m not artistic but here’s something for you.

This is what I saw when I opened it… Wow.

I realized something today. As you get older, your birthday starts to become insignificant. I mean, as a kid, it was undoubtedly the best day of the year. It meant presents, perhaps a party, and being boss for a day. Now that I’m older (and that presents are fewer), the date starts to become less significant. Instead, whenever I celebrate my birthday, it becomes a day to be thankful for the past year. It becomes a day dedicated to looking back at the events in my life for the past 12 months. It becomes a day to ask questions like:
Am I wiser today than last year?
Am I more mature?
How did I handle the trials and problems that came my way?
What were the special moments that I will never forget?
Do I have more money today than last year?
Did I gain weight?
Why is it that I still don’t feel like an adult?

I used to really appreciate birthday greetings, but in the recent years when online sites began reminding everybody of everyone’s birthdays, greetings began to get annoying. People whom you haven’t talked to in years start posting “HBD” on your Facebook wall. Sometimes you never really know if people actually remembered your birthday, or if they were forced to greet you because there was a notification about it. There are exceptions, though. A close friend bought me a cake. One of my students gave me Sodexho gift certificates (YAYYYYY!!). A classmate treated me to lunch. I got several other gifts from other friends — books, letters, a postcard (I’m looking at you, Catia), and a watch. Someone sang Jason Mraz’ Woman I Love for me :) and I bought a new phone as a gift for myself. I appreciate the gifts, but I feel happier when I think about their motives for doing all of that for me. It feels good to know that there are people who like and love you and are willing to spend a little money or time to make you happy on your special day. :)

The best thing about being the youngest in a group of closely-knit friends is that you get spoiled at times. They call me bunso, bebe, or baby lol. They bought a book for me — The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. I saw that book several months ago in a friend’s house, and the text at the back of the book intrigued me:

Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God?

Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields.

Strobel challenges them with questions, like How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event?

Strobel’s tough, point-blank questions make this Gold Medallion-winning book read like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it’s not fiction. It’s a riveting quest for the truth about history’s most compelling figure.

What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ?

I told them about my interest for that book and the next thing I know, they bought me a copy. I’m going to start on this book right away.

I swear, this is the last birthday-related post that I will make this year. Pagbigyan nyo na ko. I don’t feel like writing about my birthday, eh. (I turned 21 yesterday, btw!)

Today (January 16th) is Hannah’s birthday! If you don’t know her, just do yourself a favour and click here. She’s one of the most amazing people I’ve met here on Tumblr.

Hannah was the first person I met on Tumblr and she’s still one of my favourite people around here. She’s truly an amazing person and has a huge heart – I know this is such a clichéd thing to say but it’s the truth. I remember being particularly upset a few months ago and how talking with Hannah made me feel so much better – sometimes all you need is someone who understands you and isn’t judgmental and Hannah definitely fits in that description. I don’t think she realizes how much of an impact she has had in my life but I’m really thankful to her. She is one of the kindest people around here.

So, Hannah, I just wanted to wish you an amazing birthday - you definitely deserve it. May this year be kind to you and bring you everything you wished for. If obstacles come your way, I’m sure you’ll be able to overcome them. You’ve already shown how strong you are, so don’t let anything wither you.

I hope you enjoy yourself today and have an overall amazing day. <3

(Also, hm, please excuse my poor Photoshop skills – the last time I did something like this was probably when I was 15 years old. I just really wanted to do something for you and this was my idea. I chose Jason Mraz because I know you love him, haha.)

Yes, Jason Mraz is my man <3 Again, thank you for this wonderful post. You might think that I’m exaggerating when I say that this is one of the best things that I saw today, but I’m not. I’m glad to be your friend.

Followers, sorry for the birthday spam. Please forgive me, as I can only do this once a year.

I’m doing this not only because it’s Hannah’s birthday, but also because her blog is very good. She’s not an impulsive reblogger, which is something I really like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a chronic reblogger and most people I follow are, too; however, it doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate it when someone actually treats their blog as a sort of diary.

When Hannah posts something, it’s either something that it’s personal to her, that she can really relate to or that she finds interesting. She usually writes her own posts - and thankfully so, since her writing is so articulate. I really enjoy reading them.

Anyway, it’s better if you guys just see it for yourselves, right? Just click here and follow her.

This is honestly one of the best things that I saw today — and look! I’m reblogging it. I guess you’re wrong about me not being an impulsive reblogger! <3

Thank you so much for the wonderful words, Catia. This means a lot to me. Stop the praises, though. I don’t deserve them, and I don’t believe that I’m as good as you describe me to be.

I’d go to Google translate to find out what “thank you so much” is in Portuguese but I don’t trust that site one bit. Thank you for making me smile.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATIA! I wasn’t aware that it’s your birthday today. I would have made something more awesome but I don’t have time for that anymore, so I hope this would do. The audio quality is a bit bad, it’s better if you wear headphones. Also, I hope I pronounced your name right!

“Happy birthday Catia! Even though we don’t talk a lot anymore, you’re still one of my favorite Tumblr friend and so you deserve a special birthday greeting from me. I wish you all the best in life and may you achieve all your dreams, but I won’t wish a perfect life for you because that’s not realistic. I wish that you would also go through some trials that in the end will make you stronger and wiser. Of course, I also wish that you will have faithful friends who will walk with you through difficult times.”

I know, I sound like a 12-year old kid. I wish I had a sexy voice :(

Edit: Tumblr is being cranky again and the link pop-up isn’t working. IF you want to follow this awesome girl, go to http://pinguimperador.tumblr.com/ <3
